“It is serious fun” – The PADI Rescue Diver Course
PADI Divemaster Internship Training Journal – Rescue Diver Course
While I was doing my Rescue Diver Course, people ask me what I was doing. I answered that I was busy with the most interesting course in the PADI curriculum. Many divers say the PADI Rescue Diver Course is their favorite course and now I understand why.
During to this course, I learned how to identify unsafe situations, take care of others and myself while learning to dive with a whole new perspective. To be able to assist divers who need assistance underwater as well as on the surface and anticipate problems before they occur. I feel more confident, I feel in control.
During this course I discovered a new side of me as I went through the training with Ceningan Divers and practice new diving skills. I feel the PADI Rescue Diver course improved my confidence in the water and gave me a better understanding of diver safety and how to deal with any emergencies that may arise. I learned to manage a variety of scenarios and developed new problem solving skills.
Being introduced to new equipment such as the pocket mask opened my eyes to a whole new world of diving, it’s intense and difficult but even with concentration and hard work, we had fun role playing the different scenarios above and below the surface.
One of the key elements of the course was to learn how to rescue an unresponsive diver, providing rescue breaths and equipment removal as you tow them towards the exit point. Thanks to PADI Rescue Diver now I have learned to look beyond the safety of others and myself.
The skills we had to do were sometimes quiet hard and challenging however they are most important of my training to ensure I become proficient PADI Divemaster and have the foundation and training to keep my future guests and student safe.
The skills I learned will help me anticipate problems and hopefully deal with any rising issues before it become a dangerous situation. If there is ever an occasion where a guest is in need of help I will be able to help him/her while ensuring I also remain safe.
Understanding that my safety comes first in order to be able to assist others, is a fact that took some effort to fully apprehend. Now, I feel confident that I can take the appropriate steps to help others else without compromising my own safety.
This course is not only useful for diving incidents / accidents, but also practical if I ever need to handle an emergency on land or at home.
I believe this training has given me the tools and skills I require to become a successful rescue diver. Thank you very much to PADI & Ceningan Divers for this best unforgettable experience, now I’m preparing myself for my Divemaster training.
